Child Safety Initiative

Nora PBC + CSI

The Child Safety Initiative (CSI), organized by Nora PBC, is a collective of people, companies, and organizations dedicated to ensuring every child’s safety and well-being. By choosing to operate as a collective, CSI invites others to actively participate in this charitable effort, fostering collaboration to design and implement strategies that promote the physical, emotional, and psychological safety of children across the United States.

Purpose

The purpose of CSI is to advance systemic improvements in child safety by:

  • Developing strategies to enhance child safety and improve public reporting knowledge.

  • Centralizing partners and resources to maximize impact.

  • Monitoring progress and reporting on outcomes to ensure accountability.

CSI bridges gaps between education, reporting, and agency intervention, fostering collaboration to strengthen child safety systems and improve outcomes.

National Online Reporting Assistant

As part of CSI, the National Online Reporting Assistant (NORA) is an application designed to simplify and improve the process of reporting safety concerns. NORA ensures reports are:

  • Comprehensive: Capturing all relevant details to assist agencies in making informed decisions.

  • Organized: Presenting information in a clear and logical format to streamline the reporting process.

  • Actionable: Providing the necessary documentation to facilitate timely and effective responses.

NORA serves as a core operational resource for implementing CSI’s strategies and achieving its mission to improve child safety reporting systems. It is available to users at no cost.

Ownership

NORA (National Online Reporting Assistant) is a proprietary software application developed, owned, and managed by Nora PBC. While NORA serves as a core operational tool for the Child Safety Initiative (CSI), all intellectual property, development, and operational oversight remain under the authority of Nora PBC.

Our Collective

CSI operates as a collaborative effort that unites diverse perspectives, expertise, and resources. Stakeholders include educators, social workers, policymakers, and community organizations, ensuring that strategies are both comprehensive and grounded in real-world experience. This collaborative approach provides:

  • Flexibility to adapt quickly to emerging needs and challenges.

  • Inclusivity that leverages the unique strengths of all partners.

  • Shared ownership of outcomes, fostering sustainability and widespread support.

  • Focused resources to advance child safety goals effectively.

CSI operates as a charitable effort organized within Nora PBC’s framework, encouraging collective participation to maximize impact while benefiting from Nora PBC’s operational support.

  • Alaska

  • Arizona

  • Arkansas

  • Florida

  • Illinois

  • Indiana

  • Kansas

History

CSI emerged from insights gained by Nora PBC’s founder during their work as a Child Welfare Specialist. This role revealed critical inefficiencies in school-based reporting of child abuse and neglect, including:

  • Lack of follow-up questions during child disclosures, leading to incomplete information.

  • Reports that failed to meet statutory definitions of abuse or neglect due to insufficient context.

To address these issues, CSI was established with the following goals:

  • Provide targeted training to school staff on best practices for identifying and reporting abuse and neglect.

  • Develop and offer software to support the creation of detailed, organized reports that capture the full context of a child’s situation.

  • Reduce the number of screened-out reports that warrant investigation but lack sufficient information.

Through these efforts, CSI aims to empower educators and improve the capacity of child protection agencies to act on legitimate safety concerns.
